Spring Regattas

ImageThe WBC sponsors two high school regattas every spring. The Hebda Cup which features the seven WBC high schools, Ann Arbor Schools, and Orchard Lake St Mary's will be held on Saturday, April 26th, and the Wy-Hi Regatta will be held on Friday and Saturday May 2nd and 3rd. These two events feature high schools from throughout the state, Midwest and Canada. It takes a lot of people to run the event, if you would like to volunteer some time either on or off the water please contact Fred Mekolon, Regatta Chair at 734-284-3358 or fmekolonjr@yahoo.com. Specifically we are looking for qualified persons to work the first aid station, help with race announcing, and operating safety boats. Other areas are also needed, please call if interested, we are willing to teach those willing to learn. It is both fun and rewarding!

High School Rowing
The seven high schools who row out of the WBC are well on their way with training. All of the schools have had their athletes lifting weights, doing cardio workouts, and teaching novices how to row in the indoor tank.
All of the schools have dedicated coaching staffs with every head coach returning for this spring season. As the weather breaks the dock will be put back in the water (once the ice stops flowing down the river) and the crews will start water training for upcoming races. Some of the schools will be traveling down south during spring break to train in a warmer climate. The WBC wishes all of the crews great success in this upcoming season.
