High School
Rowing
The seven schools
that row out of the WBC have started winter training. The first floor
weight room, erg room, and water tank are all bustling with activity. This
time of year the crews are trying to build endurance and strength before
they hit the water. In the tank room the coaches are trying to teach
proper rowing technique to both returning and new
rowers.
Coaching
Education
The WBC will host a
United States Rowing Association level II coaching class and coaching
continuing education seminar on Saturday and Sunday Feb 15th and 16th. The
weekend will be filled with coaches from our club and around the state
sharing and learning coaching techniques from some acclaimed guest
speakers. These clinics increase the rowing knowledge of the people
teaching our student athletes in an effort to produce better
rowers.
Spring
Regattas
It may be cold outside but
before we know it, the ice on the river will be gone and students will be
rowing, and that means racing will not be far behind. The Hebda Cup is scheduled for Saturday April 26th, and
the Wy-Hi Regatta will follow on Friday and
Saturday May 2nd and 3rd. These regattas are
sponsored by the WBC and requires a great team effort. If you would
like to volunteer to assist at these events please contact Fred Mekolon at fmekolonjr@yahoo.com. We need help with
crowd control, water safety, and general administrative
assistance. Regatta meetings will start in late February at the
club.
Computer
Donation
If you have recently
upgraded your home computer and have an extra one just sitting around, the
WBC is in need of a computer. The one we have is just too old to work with
new programs. To donate just bring it by the club any evening the lounge
is open. We will be happy to provide a gift receipt for the donation.
